Diabetes can increase the risk of developing eye diseases such as myopia(nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), cataracts, presbyopia, and diabetic retinopathy, which is the primary vision care concern for patients with diabetes.
Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that can cause damage to the blood vessels of the retina. The initial stages of diabetic retinopathy may cause little to no symptoms.
However, as it progresses, it can cause changes in preexisting vision issues such as nearsightedness and farsightedness—leading to blindness.
Common signs and symptoms of diabetic retinopathy can include:

- Flashes of light in field of vision
